Toronto is a cultural mecca, in my opinion, comprising of people from around the world who have come to live in the city I am proud to call home. Individual cultures have carved niches in parts of the city and made those parts known to Torontonians and those in the "know" about Toronto as their "towns" or areas. For example Toronto has it's own Chinatown, Greek Town and Little Italy.

Toronto became incorporated as the City of Toronto in 1834 with a poulation of 9 254 (according to the city of Toronto's official website toronto.ca). Toronto now has around 2.5 million people living here, roughly 5.5 million if you count all of the Greater Toronto Area.

The Greater Toronto area consists of the City of Toronto and the Regional Municipality of Durham,
the Regional Municipality of Halton, the Regional Municipality of Peel and the Regional Municipality of York.

In 1998, East York, North York, York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, and what was before known as Toronto (basically, the downtown core), became amalgamated into the new City of Toronto.

Cultural attractions in the City of Toronto, include a number of annual festivals and events such as Pride and Taste of the Danforth, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the ROM (Royal Ontario Museum).

Toronto has a great public transit system, called the TTC (Toronto Transit Commission) as well as a large number of cabs to assist in getting visitors and locals around the city.

Toronto has a plethora of shopping, live entertainment, great places to eat and stay. Toronto also, thankfully, for such a huge city still has a lot of green space in the forms of parks. Toronto can be visited on a large budget and enjoyed and even visited on much tighter budgets.

So much to write about Toronto....please check back for more information.

Please check the Places to Go and Things to Do Page
or the Toronto Resources Page for more information on Toronto for now.
